Not at all! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is perfect for beginners. You don’t need any prior experience in martial arts or sports—just a willingness to learn. Our classes are beginner-friendly, and our instructors will guide you step by step at your own pace. You’ll quickly pick up the basics and start building confidence on the mats.
Everyone was a beginner once—just show up, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Absolutely! BJJ is suitable for all ages—from young children to seniors. Our classes are structured to meet different age groups and skill levels, ensuring a safe, fun, and challenging environment for everyone. Whether you’re looking to build confidence, improve fitness, learn self-defense, or just try something new, BJJ offers benefits for kids, teens, adults, and older practitioners alike.
Gi Classes:
Please wear a clean Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) kimono (also called a “Gi”) and a belt appropriate to your rank. If you’re new and don’t have one yet, let us know—we may have a spare Gi you can borrow for your first trial class.
No-Gi Classes:
Wear a rash guard or athletic t-shirt (no loose cotton shirts) and grappling shorts or leggings without zippers or pockets. For safety, avoid clothing with metal parts.
Hygiene Reminder:
All training gear must be clean, nails trimmed, and no jewelry should be worn during training. This ensures safety and respect for training partners.
To see steady progress in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we recommend training at least 2 to 3 times per week. This allows you to build muscle memory, improve your technique, and develop the necessary conditioning.
That said, consistency matters more than intensity—so choose a frequency that fits your lifestyle and stick with it. Whether you’re training for fun, fitness, or competition, regular attendance will lead to noticeable improvement over time.
If you’re just starting out, even once a week is a great way to begin, and you can increase gradually as your interest and confidence grow.
Absolutely! At Carlson Gracie, competition is part of our tradition. We are known for our strong competitive spirit and actively encourage students to test themselves in tournaments—whether locally, nationally, or internationally.
There are events for all levels, ages, and categories in both Gi and No-Gi. While competition is never mandatory, we believe it’s a powerful way to accelerate your progress, build confidence, and truly experience the essence of BJJ. Our coaches will support and prepare you every step of the way.
Carlson Gracie is more than just a name—it’s a legacy. Founded on the principles of teamwork, toughness, and loyalty, the Carlson Gracie lineage has produced some of the most respected fighters and coaches in the history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
What sets us apart is our balance of tradition and evolution. We uphold the core values of discipline and respect while embracing modern training methods. Our team spirit is strong—you’re not just a student, you’re part of a family that pushes each other to grow, on and off the mats.
At Carlson Gracie, we train hard, we support one another, and we encourage competition as a tool for growth—but we also welcome beginners, hobbyists, and anyone who wants to better themselves through Jiu-Jitsu.
No prior experience is necessary! Our classes cater to beginners through advanced practitioners, so everyone is welcome.
